On March 18th, 2025, 40 people among academics, architects, and engineers gathered online to join the launch of the Cultural-E Plus Energy Building Repository (PEB HUB).
It has been an occasion to hear more about the principles for design of PEBs, outlined by the project and introducing the PEB HUB as well as the Plus Energy Building interest group of the ACE HUB to PEB professionals.
Afterwards, attendees had the chance to hear firsthand experience of two PEB cases to introduce the open discussion that focused on two main topics:
- What are the main challenges in designing a PEB?
- How can the PEB HUB support different PEB professionals?
The first PEB presented by Hermann Leis (Project Leader at SIZ energieplus) and Ringo Offermann (Architect at Wohnbau-Studio) is the Cultural-E German Demo Case: a mixed-use building in Ostfildern.
The second PEB case, presented by Raul Ciria (Researcher at CENER) and Maria Cantalapiedra (Architect at Urb·Atelier) is the refurbishment of a heritage building
“Palacio de los Miranda” in Valladolid, which is part of our sister project Excess.
Both presentations, shared with the audience the different technologies implemented in the buildings and the different challenges faced together with the lessons learned.
The lively discussion afterwards among designers, both the presenters and designers in the audience, showed the value of these type of ‘community spaces’ where insights and tips can be shared, first-hand. Sharing challenges and lessons learned during the process of designing and building a PEB will support the advancement and mainstreaming of PEBs. This is one of the main objectives both of the PEB HUB and of the ACE HUB Interest group on PEBs.
